George Stratemeyer is listed as the Port Surveyor in the Official Directory of the Republic of Hawaii (1894-1900). In 1902 he is listed as the clerk at the Olaa store in the Puna District, near Hilo. The Kilauea Volcano erupted in March 1885 for 80 days. We have seen paintings by Stratemeyer with dates ranging from 1885 - 1892.
